HistoryRickey Tanno started in the jewelry business as an errand boy and floor sweeper in 1914 for a jeweler in The Lennox Building at East 9th Street and Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. He learned the trade; he worked at the bench repairing and making custom jewelry for customers for the next fifteen years, and became a master craftsman. At this point Rickey decided to go into business for himself. Rickey C. Tanno Jewelers was started in 1929 at 1010 Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. This building was also known as the Swetland Building and his store was on the third floor. He remained at this location until 1949, when he moved to a larger store in the Union Commerce Building at East Ninth and Euclid. This was a newer building on the same spot that he began his jewelry career 35 years earlier. This building was later re-named The Huntington Building, and is still the home of Rickey C. Tanno Jewelers today. Rickey Tanno Sr. passed away in 1973. His widow, Virginia, and two sons Rickey II, and Terry, are still running the business today serving second and third generations of satisfied families and businesses with the same personal service and professional knowledge of the jewelry business as Rickey Sr. did.
